The Montessori approach
“If education is always to be conceived along the same antiquated lines of a mere transmission of knowledge, there is little to be hoped from it in the bettering of man’s future.” Maria Montessori
Montessori philosophy is renowned. Dr.
Montessori, founder of the “Montessori Method” based her new education on scientific observations of the child. She found the best environment had these characteristics: Development of the whole child. A scientifically prepared environment facilitating learning through sensory, sequential, and self-correcting progression. Multi-age groupings reflecting societal reality. Freedom within limits. And a trained adult maintaining the environment, who is a role model, demonstrator, and record keeper.
